Dad's Cameras
One of the coolest things about having a dad who is also a camera buff is being able to rummage through his stash of vintage film cameras. And I think this one's a beauty!
The Depth of Field (DOF) chart inside the focusing knob is simply gorgeous!
My favourite part is the waist level viewfinder. It's like old school live view! Seeing the image composed on the focusing screen really makes you feel attached to the image that you are capturing. The grid lines help leveling the shot and a helpful popup magnifying glass aids in critical focusing.
This one is a Seagull Twin Lens Reflex (TLR) 4A made in Shanghai in the 1970's. It comes with a leather carrying case and strap. I took the shot above with a single light source, a Pixar-esque Ikea desk lap, pointed in front and straight down at the camera. To get the glow in the top lens element, I stuck my Noka E63 cell phone with the flash turned on inside the waist level viewfinder to light up that lens.
Completely manual with a 75mm f/3.5 coated lens. Neither requires nor accepts batteries. So metering is best done with an old fashioned handheld light meter.
This is the film advance leaver. The button to the left of it allows for multiple exposure on the same frame of film. Being a medium format camera, this Seagull accepts 120 film of course.

I am Published!!
I am sooo psyched about this! Even more so than I imagined! Well, long story short, an editor at JPG Mag 8020 Media have been in contact with me since new years about one of my photographs considered for publication in their magazine. You see JPG Mag is a reader submission based magazine where anyone can upload photos onto their website under specific themes to be considered for publication. Peers then vote on your photo and editors get the final say. Well I can't believe one of my photos were chosen!!
My photo is on the left titled "Dunes". I shot this last winter in the bitter cold on a photo-hunt day out with my friends. It is actually a conservatory of animals and birds at the top of a popular Vancouver park. I switched and cropped my original photo and desaturated it to make it appear the way it is now. This is what the building actually looks like.
You can read the entire Issue 21 of JPG Mag here http://www.jpgmag.com/magazine/21, it is scheduled to be printed this spring, so I will make sure to pick one up at a nearby news stand! I'm so happy!!

My Introduction
I absolutely love visual art, paintings, sculptures, and films, but I myself am hopeless at drawing, sketching, or painting. So photography is my creative outlet. I have a love hate relationship with the craft. I often find that capturing the moment means being behind it, not within it.
I started this blog mainly as a portfolio of my work, but I also want to talk about anything camera or photography related. Latest industry news, recent purchases, cool photo accessories and what have you.
I love questions, comments, suggestions, criticisms, fanboy-rants, and everything else that comes with writing down your opinions for all to hear. There is a real person behind these words and he'd love to know what you think about his small corner of the internet!-E. T.
